Mass consumerism

Mass consumerism is a term that refers to the spread of deep interest in acquiring material goods and services spreading below aristocratic levels, and it started slowly with the industrial revolution. With the revolution came new mechanical inventions that could speed up production capacity, the economic upturn for the capitalist and since more people was needed, the worker-class made possible to afford some of these goods. While hints of mass consumerism found in several premodern societies it is the Industrial revolution it started.
