Environmental Kuznets curve (EKC)

Environmental Kuznets curve is a term applied to environmental burdens. The Kuznets curve hypothesises that economic inequalities increase before decreasing while a country is developing. It is the rationale that, once basic needs fulfilled, society will have the means and the will to deal with environmental issues. Thus, the use of natural resources and the emission of pollutants will first increase the level of income and decrease beyond some turning point at higher income levels.
