Ecocentric is a type of environmentalism taking the view that large-scale ecological processes such as evolution, adaptation, and biogeochemical cycling are the most important aspects of nature. Moral values and rights are ascribed to ecological processes, and the whole is considered more important than the individual parts. Consequently, efforts to conserve and protect entire natural systems should be given priority. Those holding this view challenge the industrial culture’s view of humans as the centre of nature and not the opposite. See Deep Ecology
