Conventional pollutants

Conventional pollutants are a group of the seven significant pollutants identified and regulated by the U.S. Clean Air Act.

Criteria pollutants

    • The seven above found in the critical sources such as Criteria pollutants, it harms health (chemical compounds in urban air).

Acid Rain

Acid rain is rain droplets containing

    • Sulphur oxides (SO2 and SO3)
    • Nitrogen dioxide (NO2).

When acid pollutants (precursor pollutants see below) mixed with water vapour and oxidants in the atmosphere it falls back to Earth in dry or wet form, mainly

    • Sulphur dioxide (SO2)
    • Nitrogen oxides (NO^)

Emissions

    • Volatile contaminants (VOC) that result such as burning fuel in an engine causes air pollution

Water pollution

Sources of water pollution

    • Fracking (hydraulic fracturing of rock deep beneath the surface to release petroleum) can result in groundwater pollution
    • Non-point Sources. Is pollution carried off the land by stormwater, it is not possible to identify one single origin, commonly found:
      • agriculture (pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides)
      • Construction
      • dams
      • channels
      • land disposal
      • forestry
      • mining
      • saltwater intrusion
      • city streets
