The banana fibre obtained from the stem of the banana plant (Musa sapientum) have been characterized for their diameter variability and their mechanical properties, with a stress on fracture morphology. Banana fibre for textile productions is used as an eco-friendly alternative for the production of dyed, printed and finished textiles for home furnishing and apparel. Natural fibres present important advantages such as low density, appropriate stiffness and mechanical properties and high dispaosability and renewability. Moreover, they are recyclable and biodegradable.
