The Amazon system plays a significant role in the world’s climate as it produces about 20% of the world’s oxygen supply and with the Amazon drainage basin covers over 8 million km2 and has the largest rainforest on earth. 6400 km long Amazon River with its source in the Andes to its mouth in the Atlantic and the drainage basin includes a variety of landscapes with an incredible biodiversity, both aquatic and terrestrial.
