Collaborative consumption is a new economic model; collaborative consumption describes the shift in consumer values from ownership to access. Together, cities and entire communities around the world are using network technologies to do more with less by renting, lending, swapping, bartering, gifting and sharing products on a greater scale. Collaborative consumption is transforming business, consumerism. The mission is to improve life and sustainable qualities.

Coworking

Coworking is what happens when a group of independent workers carry out their different tasks in a shared workspace, usually called a coworking space. Coworking share workspaces or offices used by various independent individuals as their principal place of business, underpinned by community values. Coworking is a self-directed, collaborative and flexible work style based on mutual trust and the sharing of common core objectives and values between members. The members treat each other equally, can increase their well-being by working in a collaborative atmosphere, and accumulate – through cooperation, not competition – greater economic, social and cultural capital, above that which is possible through an isolated form of work.

These trend-setters are generally immune to conventional environmental or climate-change communications.

The Guardian in UK created an online Ethical Fashion Directory in 2008 to help consumers navigate the world of ethical fashion and raise their awareness Change: A consumer portal for finding eco-friendly and ethical alternatives to mainstream brands increase the purchase of sustainable goods.

Least-developed countries

Least developed country (LDC) is the name given to a country which according to the United Nations fits within the broader grouping of less-developed countries (see below) and as such, exhibits the lowest indicators of socioeconomic development. The UN classifies levels of development within countries according to the following criteria: income levels, human-resource indicators, and levels of economic vulnerability. The current group of least-developed countries which comprises 49 countries, of which 33 are in Africa, 10 in Asia, 1 in Latin America and the Caribbean, and 5 in Oceania.


Less-developed countries

Less Developed countries. These comprise all regions of Africa, Asia (few countries are not included as Japan), Latin America and the Caribbean plus Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.

Low carbon economy is a concept that refers to an economy which has a minimal output of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions into the biosphere. More developed regions comprise all regions of Europe plus North America, Australia/New Zealand and Japan.

NICE Consumer project

The ultimate aim of the NICE Consumer project is to inspire changes that could lead consumer behavior toward moresustainable fashion consumption, covering the purchase, use, care for and disposal of fashion goods and accessories. Of course, fashion consumption takes place within a larger system of consumption and production involving consumers, business (the fashion industry), civil society, and government. In this report, we suggest roles that each can play in creating a more sustainable fashion consumption and production system. We assume government has a critical role to play in setting the stage for sustainable fashion, so we plan on providing recommendations to the EU Presidency to help spur coherent and effective policies in support of sustainable fashion consumption.

No SweatShop label: This accreditation and labeling system is a joint industry–union initiative aimed at ending exploitation in the Australian fashion industry and promoting companies committed to ethical Australian manufacturing. It centers on a voluntary code of practice that enables companies to keep their supply chains transparent and ensure that everyone involved in production of  garments receive, as a minimum, the award rates of pay and conditions. The accreditation system only relates to supplying chains within Australia.


Open innovation

The central idea behind open innovation is that in a world of widely distributed knowledge, companies cannot afford to rely entirely on their own research, but should instead buy or license processes or inventions from other companies.
