      • Gandhi practices a non-violence philosophy (satyagrahi one who engages in non-violent resistance). He was an anti-war activist, leader of India’s independence movement, freedom fighter, environmentalist and one of the most inspirational people ever to walk on Earth
      • Gandhi left for England 1888 to train as a lawyer, he became a part of London’s social elite, a dandy young man and soon became Head of London’s Vegetarian Society
      • In 1893 he left England and moved to South Africa to practice as a lawyer as many Indians had emigrated to the country. Gandhi practiced and lived he there for 21 years before he finally arrived back in India in 1914, a self-confident, proud, deeply religious, and well-known political leader.
      • Gandhi (61 years old) decided to launch a satyagraha against the British government’s decision to tax salt in 1930. He and 78 other men started a 24 days walk towards the ocean to make salt as a protest and breaking the law while arriving many thousands of Indians followed in the footsteps of Gandhi’s. This was one of the many protests launched by Gandhi. Nevertheless, not long after the salt march the British Empire finally gave India its independence on 15 August 1947
      • Gandhi was nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize five times between 1937 and 1948, however, was never awarded the Nobel Peace Prize; one of the biggest mistakes done by the Nobel Prize Committee.
