Albert Einstein view upon the environment
In the series, Greatest Original Environmentalist entering modern times and two of the greatest thinkers finally meet, nevertheless, with a timespan of nearly 2500 years between them shared spiritual values and scientifically views. One simply cannot write the environmental history without including Albert Einstein, honoured with Nobel Prize in Physics 1921. Great Compassion and Eco-lifestyle philosophy Albert Einstein who was a part of thinkers that created modern environmental movements; the philosophy shaped organizations as Greenpeace, Earth Day, Bellona, World Wildlife Foundation by sharing his warm humanity with us all. First, we must remember that Einstein lived in a very difficult time, but he was a beautiful man who shared and included everybody in his world of wisdom. He is not only a hero but also an inspiration for work with the environment and sustainable product design
Albert Einstein a person who in all his greatness included compassion for other living beings and shared the common view on the environment with Buddha, Gandhi, and Arne Næss. The humanity, caring for others and compassion they all shared, is quite different from the view we have today. The focus we have on our own ego and the clinching to it is probably the biggest reason for many of the problems in society the unfair sharing of resources in the world. Sustainable product design it is about smaller small changes, a process towards a greater understanding of how everything in the world, humans, animals, production, trade and respect I depend on each other. The understanding that everything interconnected is essential for producing a product that is truly sustainable. When we think about the impact the production of goods, have in other communities and countries we speak about an interconnected sustainable design, called spiritual product design. I believe Einstein would appreciate people that work to improve situations for others. Einstein did not only have the greatest understanding of Space and time; his view of humanity is extraordinary.
The 1970’s radical environmentalists
The fourth post discusses Einstein seeking the original environmentalists in history up to the 1970’s. In the 1970’s a large part of the established society looked upon the new environmentalists as a threat more than heroic, in the most politically active decade of the last century people fighting for the environment perceived as criminal elements by masses. We should, however, be thankful for caring for nature. Maybe if environmentalists did not start in the 1970s cleaning up, it might have been too late. Today the status of the 1970’s Eco-warriors seems different regarded heroes by most people.

The terrorist cell RAF (Rote Arme Fraction) or Baader Meinhof was politically concerned about the influence American imperialism had in West Germany after Second World War seeking for a common new German identity based on German language, industrialisation, music, rich history and cultural influence. However, the violence escalated out of control. In Northern Ireland with IRA, the killings of the Israeli sports athletes in 1978, Malcolm X and the black panthers, Vietnam War ended in 1975 after large protest marches, the 1970’s who started with hippies’ flower power and ended in terrorism bullets.
Einstein born in a difficult time
Albert Einstein was born in a time where great inventions and the industrial revolution had made many nations powerful. In 1905 Albert Einstein contributions to physics, established him, at the age of twenty-six, as the world’s leading physicist. He had already published important papers but also found time to write twenty-three review articles for journals, while working at the patent office. Among the papers published was the special theory of relativity, and one on energy and inertia (the famous expression E = mc2).
In 1901, he got a Swiss nationality, while Germany suffered under the heavy burden after they lost first and then later Second World War II, massive taxed suffered strongly. Hitler took advantage of this and by promised every Germany work, his mange to do so by starting gigantic projects as The Autobahn. The Autobahn is still today highly modern more than 70 years after. The atom bomb that Einstein’s theories made possible became his black nemesis, without the bomb in time-fighting Americans and English might have lost the war. The Germans were almost ready to test their own atom bombs and in addition to the bomb. They developed the first real missiles V1 and V2. The missiles with a nuclear bomb could have wiped out London, and probably New York. When Einstein realized what the bomb had done in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He understood how his science could be misused, and he got worried about t human’s ability to destroy each other.
Einstein and Buddha shared the common view
In the series of the finest Original Environmentalist, we are entering the modern times and two of the finest thinkers ever lived on earth finally meets with a time span of 2500 years, in the space, spiritual development and science. Albert Einstein meets Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who known as The Buddha (the one that is enlightened according to Indian languages Pāli and Sanskrit). Einstein shared the same view upon humanity and philosophies that everything is connected, and the universe is empty; everything can be taken apart is a smaller unit as atoms and even small particles until it is nothing left than a human illusion.
Humanity is the most important factor in the difficult times ahead of us Einstein and Buddha shared also the same view, not to kill anything living included the trees and grass. Einstein was a scientist who needed evidence for his theories; Buddha, on the other hand, was a philosopher. However, Buddha said if a scientist proved his theories wrong, he would accept theirs. Both Buddha and Einstein’s view is clearly important in our stressful and disturbing times. I have seen over the last ten years a clear shift in our social values; we are seeking the happiness we did not find in material wealth and started practising spirituality. The growth in easterly activities as Yoga, Meditation and Qi Gong is a true evidence of this. The new scientist and Western philosophers are highly inspired by the holistic view and ideas coming from ancient religion and philosophy. Einstein’s words on humanity and true religion speak to us in with a united voice. Einstein; A human being a part of the universe, as a part limited in time and space, we experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness, this delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting our personal desires and affections to a few persons nearest to us. Our task to free ourselves from the prison by widening our view and include all living beings with compassion is nature in its true beauty. The human value determined by measure and senses constructed by mind. “We shall need a substantially new way of thinking if humanity is to survive,” said Albert Einstein in 1954
We must take care of nature, as nature is God
The religion of Christianity claim ownership of God, do not accept other Gods is not freedom in my opinion. Acceptance of other people belief system respected and understood. Nevertheless, as soon as the conversation leads to questions that my sins not forgiven since Jesus crucified, I walk. Einstein, who was a Jew, could not accept religion in the form presented, Einstein famously said: “Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind.” The famous aphorism has been the source of endless debate between believers and non-believers wanting to claim the greatest scientist of the 20th century as their own. The environmental crisis is a global truth. The environment is everything and when Einstein and Buddha talk about not killing any living beings they include trees, vegetation flowers, sea, and mountain. All ecosystems are interconnected, a view shared by many great thinkers included Albert Einstein. The environment, which we all are a part of any place in, speaks the truth; you are in my environment, and I am in yours. When somebody somewhere in the world is poisoning the water, forget harms of humans elsewhere.
Widening our compassion to survive
The one who possibly ever was close to understanding “The Theory of relativity” were Buddha said, Einstein. Collectively the same ideas “everything interconnected and that nothing existed alone.” Einstein believed also if human existence would survive, it sounds dramatic, but Einstein understood that only by widening our compassion to include all lifeforms would it be possible for humans to survive in the future. The true value of a human being determined by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self is the value of “living a life for others.” Einstein believed that we should think of solutions in a new manner. ”We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive said“, Albert Einstein. Einstein believed only a strong common movement could make a real difference. A massive global movement that includes a higher level of spiritual development with less weight of human material progress can level out the unbalance of wealth.
Around 1994 employed by an American manufacturing company with sales of 50 million pairs of jeans yearly in Europe. The year 2000, we worked on future studies and published by Levi Strauss Co. megatrends 2000 and beyond. The research gave the corporation a warning and wake-up. Quotes from the presentation “a negative reaction from organizations, media, and consumers on the global brand exploitation of natural resources will force a new way of designing denim jeans in the future“. A novel way based on renewable resources, recycled, reused, and re-conceptualized manufacturing and management. Levi Strauss Co over the coming decade implemented a sustainable design and lifecycle management, focusing on lowering the environmental impact especially water footprint and chemicals. The step Levi Strauss Co made then continues and as a leading corporation within their Industry inspires other manufacturers and brands. Levi Strauss one of the leading denim jeans brands globally their set standards and obligations high.
Einstein believed in a global cosmic religion
Einstein talked about a common global religion: it should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology, covering both natural and transcendent, based on a religious sense arising from the experience all things natural and non-material as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there were, any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism. Buddha pointed out; everyone needed to find his or her own truth; when found, follow it, wholeheartedly. However, watch out, as there are many charlatans; Buddha was referring to gurus and others who earn a lot of money on people’s uncertainty.
