Fixation is a term used to describe the formation of a sort of final bond between the fibre and dye. The bond type formed changes with the type of dye and the fibre. For example, acid dyes fixing is usually performed by different assortment of mechanisms like hydrophobic forces and ionic bonding, while in the case of reactive dyes generally fixes by covalent bond.
