Atomic mass unit

Atomic mass unit is a term used to describe the mass of a neutral atom of a nuclide. It is usually expressed in terms of the physical scale of atomic masses, that is, in atomic mass units (amu). It can also be used as a unit of mass; one atomic mass unit (amu) is defined as 1 12 the mass of one 126 C atom. See also Atomic energy, Atomic number
