The dictionary is becoming a very important basic part as environmental issues becomes mainstream. The increased interest from consumers  asking questions how was  the garment made, where does it come from and finally does  the work force get paid minimum wages and is the workplace safe.  Therefore, Eco fashion dictionary give answers to many questions and it’s a useful resource for most consumers and people employed within the textile Industry at different levels from growing cotton, working in retail, sales and marketing, design, manufacturing, dye, second-hand stores and the rapidly growing recycling industry.

Textiles the second largest industry worldwide, only food industry use more people than textile.  Textiles is also the second largest polluter, since cotton is water demanding crop and also uses a lot of pesticides and fertilizers. Textile manufacturing at basic level is today a low tech industry and does not require highly skilled workers therefore many countries in less developed countries today dominate most production today, with their cheap labour force, price has become the most important element when brand decide where to produce. Nearly all production iis now outsourced and large brand such as H&M, Zara and Nike produce their garments, trainers and accessories using many thousand contractors makes transparency difficult and tracking difficult.

Another factor is cotton growing business, even today only 1-2 % of the global production is organic, these crops does not need fertilizers or pesticides and does not harem workers or the soil. Over time they use less water as well. In India around 250.000 people die each year of hazardous chemicals used in agriculture.

A complete source list of books, articles and Internet sites added as the last step making it complete. Since updating happens beside regular work and generate no income. We appreciate donations as sever capacity, plugins and a lot of time and effort made to keep the high standard and reliable facts.
