GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT: Al Gore served as Vice President under Bill Clinton 1993 – 2001; in addition, he is an advocate and philanthropist. He served as a Congressman from Tennessee 1977–85 and from 1985–93. However, he is known for his work for the environment; he has founded several non-profit organizations, including Alliance for climate protection.
In 2007, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, which is the most prestigious. Granted for his work with global for “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for the measures needed to counteract such change” Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel’s committee decision to give him the prize was as following; Al Gore has for a long time been one of the world’s leading environmentalist politicians. “He became aware of an early stage of the climatic challenges the world is facing. His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change. He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted.” Today Gore regards himself an environmental activist and author; he published in 2009 the book “An Inconvenient Truth” won a Grammy Award. In 2007, the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” was given Academy Award 2006, nominated for Time’s “Person of the year 2007.” He has recently published “The Future assessment of six critical drivers of global change in the decades to come.”
